Hard to Love: Poet Struggles with HIV Among Growing Epidemic

For Timothy DuWhite, finding joy and freedom first means overcoming his own trauma.

Timothy DuWhite is an award-winning poet, writer and activist struggling with what it means to find health, happiness and freedom as an HIV+ queer Black man.

His story is not a rare one: At current rates of exposure, the CDC projects half of all Black gay men in the U.S. will contract HIV in their lifetime.
