In August, New Yorkers savor their final summer indulgences and indiscretions (and scramble for air-conditioned spaces). NY City Lens reporters joined in the savoring—from bomba music at a farmer’s market in the Bronx to surreptitious dips in the fountains at the Botanical Gardens to flirtatious horseplay in the park.
Some of these summer scenes, at a community pool in Harlem, say, or at a rest area on the High Line, suggest that not everybody gets to enjoy the late summer rites of passage to the same degree. But for most, August is about being outside, feeling the sun, and spending evenings with friends before autumn rains and stricter schedules chase us back inside.
