Harlem’s Swing Dance Society Keeps “The Lindy Hop” Alive

Born in the midst of the Great Depression on Lenox Ave., the Lindy Hop has struggled to survive in the place where it all began. But some Harlemites meet every Tuesday between Lenox and 5thAve. in hope of preserving the signature dance. The Harlem Swing Dance Society is the only organization in Harlem that teaches the Lindy Hop. Members Deborah Pouge and Willis Reagan enjoy keeping the Lindy Hop history alive.
