ILLUMINATING THE RICH AND VARIED LIFE OF NEW YORK CITY

In Your Easter Bonnet, With All the Frills Upon It…

The Easter Bonnet Parade, a cheerful festive event celebrated annually along Fifth Avenue ever since the 1870s, attracted thousands of visitors on Easter Sunday. Even though this parade is not an organized spectacle like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, with no marching bands or floats, its charm doesn’t seem to fade year after year. Instead, the colorful Easter bonnets are the main attraction: the new and the traditional, the simple and extravagant, the funny and the fancy; all find their place at this yearly vibrant pageant.

Marilyn Alonso, a student at Rutger University, New Jersey, celebrated the parade with her friend Shaina Gomez and her father Ruben Alonso, a 15-year participant at the pageant and a resident of Paterson, New Jersey.
