Majorie Gatson, a 25-year-old punk rocker from Harlem was groped by a stranger while at a subway station three years ago. Her experience is not unique. In 2017, all crime in New York was down with one notable exception—misdemeanor sex crimes, like groping, which rose 9.3 percent from the year before. Around a fifth of these sex crimes happen on the subway.
In the spirit of the #metoo movement, which has seen women from many industries publicly share their stories of sexual harassment and assault, Gatson decided to share her experience and fight back against New York’s street harassment—through song.
