Times Square Valentines

By Kate Christobek and Joseph Clark

Love is in the air, or at least it was in Times Square on Sunday.  Despite the pandemic, the Times Square Alliance threw their 8th annual Valentine’s Day celebration, holding proposals and vow renewals in Father McGinley Square. The day started with a formal vow renewal ceremony of Denise and Robert Marte of Bloomingdale, New Jersey officiated by Times Square Alliance Vice President of People and Culture Hollis Kam. Later, Yasin Uzun proposed to Tuba Cebi in front of the American Eagle big screen. In the evening, selected couples gathered at a distance on the TKTS stairs and renewed their vows in a live streamed event that encouraged couples watching at home to do the same. Although the events were scaled down compared to previous years, the participating couples were still delighted to share their public displays of affection in the heart of New York City.
