Worshipping the Saint of Death

Santa Muerte from NYCityLens on Vimeo.

More than 10 million people are devoted to la Santa Muerte, the Saint of Death, making the religious movement one of the fastest growing in the Americas.  It has a strong presence here in New York City, where many of its followers are young, working class women. One of them, Guadelupe, has built an altar for the saint in her apartment in Queens. Santa Muerte, she says, helps her cope with her fears of living in the United States as an undocumented immigrant.
