A week into President Biden’s term, NYCityLens reporters spoke to residents across the city and asked what issues they would like the new chief executive to prioritize. Not surprisingly, the coronavirus pandemic topped the to-do list.

From this random survey posted on Instagram, it’s clear that Covid-19 is still at the top of most people’s minds, though it isn’t the only issue that they want the new president to address. New Yorkers are worried about how the vaccine is being distributed and how information about it is getting out. They see the process as confusing and inequitable. And they say that the pandemic has created serious economic problems that have not been resolved; financial help has not come fast enough and doesn’t adequately cover their needs.

The toxic divisive atmosphere that has characterized our society these past four years and how it’s played out is also proving worrisome to many. Specifically, they zeroed in on issues of economic inequality, racial injustice, and police brutality.

A handful also said that climate change should be the president’s priority, as these issues are more long term and potentially affect everything else.

As the president nears his first 100 days in office, we’ll check in with New Yorkers again to see how they view how he is doing.
