On the Frontlines: Overworked and Underpaid

New York City’s EMS workers are the lowest paid first responders in the city. Emergency Medical Technicians and paramedics are paid far less than police and firefighters, even as they respond to a record number of 911 calls and fall ill with coronavirus by the hundreds. NYCityLens spoke to Yari, a paramedic in Queens, who says he and his colleagues need more support—and respect—from City Hall.
