Bill Stone is a 77-year-old speed skater from Long Island who has been doing short track speed skating for the past 20 years at the Flushing Meadows Speed Skating Club, in Queens. A competitive weight lifter into his 40’s, Stone said he took up speed skating initially as a low impact way to stay in shape.

Short track races range from 500 to 5,000 meters for men, and 500 to 3,000 meters for women.

The club accepts members of all ability levels, and is the only club in New York City where people can learn to speed skate.
